Nanotechnology at the Hebrew University.
The Hebrew University’s Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology uses an interdisciplinary approach to accept the dispute of this brand new, interesting and pretty exciting field. Gathering all the researchers from numerous departments, the Center starts with a unit for a nanoscopic characterization to “see,” analyze and define nanometric structure, which the researchers had created. This Center is willing to creat a special unit for nanofabrication where they will be able to build nanometric structures
Wide-Ranging Nano-Applications
This specific comprehensive approach results to a research, which is able to find applications in lots of different industries:
• Semiconductors. The work is being shown on nanostructured semiconductors, superconductors, and composite materials and data.
• Medicine. Systems, which are going to be able to confine single cells to study and quantify down, up to the molecular level.
• Telecommunications. Research is being carried out in nanophotonics and on optofluidic components and devices to provide wider, smaller, much faster and more versatile ways of telecomunication.
Some of these projects in nanotechnology step up on another level, and are ready to become a commercial succesonly by the efforts and informational and human resources og Yissum, Hebrew University’s active Technology Transfer Services organization. A composite film made up of such compounds as nano-particles, sol-gels and metals is at a moment, when it’s completely ready to be examined as the anti-corrosion coating for automotive industry and non-viral delivery method for gene therapy is ready for testing for numerous applications.
Researchers chosen
All the cutting-edge projects for the Center were currently lead and developed by almost 30 researcher. Collaboration of scientists of different scientific areas lets the development of a right understanding of thenvironment, that contains 1-100 nanometer objects developed by researchers exist and operate.
The Center’s researchers from the whole scientific spectrum are drawn are at the Technology Transfer University.
• Department of physical chemistry: Uri Banin and Danny Porath are respectively studying nanoparticles and DNA nanoelectronics in different applications.
• Faculty of medicine: Dan Gazit is doing a research on skeletal tissue engineering based on nanotechnology and gene therapy.
• Department of inorganic chemistry: Daniel Mandler and Shlomo Yitzchaik are doing progress in a production of ultra-thin fils and sol-gel.All the professionals, including marketing and legal ones from Yissum are working together with the researchers from the Center to “take” the technology from laboratory and put it to the market.
As you see the more we begin to be interested in world without us globally we study little things, to get better knowledge of the whole universe.
